Food and Supplements We Use

Raw Food
For us, the decision to go to a raw food diet was easy. The hard part was figuring out how to do it every day.
We vary what we feed. 5-6 days per week, it's beef, but we feed fish (makerel or salmon), duck or tripe and a raw beef shin or knuckle bone at least once per week. We use the Happy Healthy Pet and Bravo brand food because it is balanced well for active dogs.   Click here  for more information on the benefits of a raw food diet for dogs.

Supplements

We augment the SnowAngels' raw food with:

Treats

Raw frozen beef shin or knuckle bones (they are actually more of a meal than a treat) is a favorite.  Puppies LOVE the bones after the big dogs have cleaned out the marrow. After the bones are cleaned out by a dog, we rinse them well with hot water and fill the cavity with slices of fresh fruits and vegetables, nut (no madacemia or soy) butter, and good plain greek yogurt. We pop them into the freezer and they make great "parting gifts" as we leave for work.

Beef trachea available through Pet Dynanix are always a hit.

Fresh, raw fruits and vegetables
are the staple training treat. Favorites are organic:

  • Apple (whole)
  • Banana (whole)
  • Blueberries or Sstrawberries
  • Broccoli (stem and crowns)
  • Carrot (raw, whole)
  • Celery (raw, trimmed)
  • Cranberries (raw, whole)
  • Green beans (raw, whole)
  • Green peas (raw, whole)
  • Orange or clementine sections (peeled)
  • Pumpkin and other hard squashes (peeled and sliced)
  • Sweet potato (steamed, sliced)
  • White potato (steamed
  • Yellow squash (raw, whole)
  • Zucchini (raw, whole)
  • NO grapes, raisins, soybeans, corn or macadamia nuts

Cheese jerky  - We take organic, rennetless cheese, slice it super-thin, and dry in single-layer sheets in the refrigerator (it takes about 2 weeks)  and you've got a "crispy cheese treat" that you can  break apart like a jerky. Panzer - Sarahs Granddog

Broth pops-Homemade, fat-skimmed chicken, beef, fish or vegetable broth, poured into an ice cube tray and frozen.

Veggie pops - Handfulls of whatever organic veggies we have, a little beef, chicken or fish broth, a little garlic, a squirt or to of some salmon oil and a teaspoon of seaweed.  Process or blend untill it is a thin mush. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze!

Frozen yogurt pops - Blend good plain yogurt or a good quality buttermilk,  nut butter (no macadamia or soy nut) and a banana (or any other fruit or vegetable). Process or blend until smooth. Add a handful of whole oats if the mixture is thin. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze.

Jerky- rabbit, bison, buffalo, venison, duck, salmon and turkey jerky which we get from Pet Dynamix.

Flower Essences

Easter after flowers! We use flower essences to balance mind, body and soul. It sounded a little "out there" at first, but all we had to do was use flower essences  one time and we saw right away how this approach to human and animal health and happiness works.
There are hundreds of recognized flower essences and each one addresses specific issues. The challenge comes in knowing which essences you and/or your Samoyed need. Annette Laugel-Schloss has been working successfully with essences with people and animals for years.  To contact Annette Laugel-Schloss, click here
